Dr. Ioana Smirnov was born in Romania, and moved to Canada with her parents as a young child. She studied Microbiology and then completed her medical degree at UBC. She and her husband have been official Islanders since 2011. They have spent time in Comox, Nanaimo, Duncan, and Saltspring Island before settling down in Victoria. They have a son born in 2015 and a daughter in 2018.

Dr. Smirnov is dedicated to the full spectrum of Family Practice and also has a special interest in maternity care. Outside of medicine she enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, and being active in the great outdoors.
